Vascular skin lesions most commonly manifest as rosacea and can usually be found on the face, neck, chest, and back. They appear as a red tone to your skin and/or small, red threads running throughout your skin’s surface. These red threads are actually broken capillaries, capillaries being the smallest blood vessels in the body. The red hue can be caused by leakage from these broken vessels.

Intense Pulsed Light treatments work by applying energy to the skin, where it it readily absorbed by hemoglobin (that’s blood to you an I), destroying the vessels, and sealing them shut. The destroyed vessels and any residual blood will then be reabsorbed by the body, leaving little or no trace of the vascular skin lesions behind.
